Welsh Landscapes - Paul Mellon Collection, Yale Center for British Art

These Welsh landscapes are from Paul Mellon's (1907-1999) collection. The American philanthropist's extensive collection of artworks, presented to the Yale Center of British Art, record the development of British art from Elizabethan times onwards. These landscapes mainly date from the 18th and 19thC and represent a selection of popular locations for that particular era. A great number of artists toured north Wales producing art works which were typical of the so-called 'Romance period' of painting.
