Youhannah El Karey was born in Nablus. His father raised him in the Greek Orthodox faith, but El Karey converted to Babtism following contact with American missionaries. He studied theology at the Baptist College, Pontypool, and gave a lecture series across Wales to collect money for missionary work in Palestine. Eventually, he returned to Palestine as a noted Babtist missionary.
