As the population of Barry grew and developed into a town in the late nineteenth century, residential areas and shops were built for the expanding community. In the western part of Barry, this included the development of Broad Street. The street incorporated shops, homes, the Priory church, Barry Hotel and the Old Romilly Hall Cinema.
