Barry Docks Centenary Celebration

In August 1989, Barry celebrated the centenary of the opening of its docks. A major project undertaken at the end of the nineteenth century, the construction project had also brought the railway to Barry and boosted the local population to a large extent. To celebrate the occasion, a Valley and Vale Community Play was held, as well as a Cuban Salsa Band and the African musical group "Shistaka" performed at the Gibbonsdown Leisure Centure. On the streets, banners were displayed and residents took place in a flower competition.
