As the population of Barry surged as the nineteenth century progressed and the town expanded, a number of hotels were established in the town. This was also boosted by the growing reputation of Barry as a tourist destination. Hotels in the town include The Ship, one of the oldest hotels in Barry. Built in 1860, it was originally a thatched building before being demolished and replaced in 1891 with the current building. Other hotels in the town include Barry Dock Hotel, Barry Hotel, Victoria Hotel, and Castle Hotel near the docks.
