The Welsh in Gallipoli, WW1
Several Welsh regiments were sent out to serve in the Gallipoli Campaign, also known as the Dardanelles Campaign. Gallipoli was one of the bloodiest battle grounds of World War One and many Welsh lost their lives. During the Gallipoli Campaign, pal regiments were serving, men that had grown up and sometimes were working together before the war broke out. Since the pal regiment were fighting in the same battles together many communities in Wales lost a generation, sometimes on the same day. It is often known as the darkest period for the Welsh during the First World War.
