This interviewee saw television for the first time during his time with the armed forces. He had to wait a while before he could have a television at his home in Ferndale because of a problem with the transmitter. He remembers seeing the Coronation of Elizabeth II in the local Labour Club and he remembers especially seeing the Queen of Tonga. He talks of Aberfan and the effect of seeing people digging for the children. The broadcasting of Rugby is discussed, the prominent players and the effect of success on the field on the community, especially creating interest among women. He remembers the night of the launch of S4C, of the boasting of the high standard to come and the irony of launching the channel with the cartoon Super Tyed. Of the Miners' Strike he proposes that the television crews had encouraged violence sometimes to get a story and he suspects that television had chosen odd people to speak for the miners' cause at times to create a hapless impression.
