Wales is... Welsh costume

On the St David’s Day young girls celebrate by wearing the Welsh costume. This is not a centuries old tradition. The Welsh costume was part of the revival of Welsh culture in Victorian times. It was based on clothes worn by women in rural Wales. In this period more tourists came to Wales via the railways. The Welsh lady became a marketing gimmick and a national icon.
