Description

The DUMFRIESSHIRE was a sailing ship sunk on 28 June 1915 by U 24 travelling from San Francisco to Dublin carrying barley. 30 survivors stayed at the Bethel. A crewman stated that it was a 'skin-of-the-teeth' business to get away from the ship on the lifeboats as the ship sank in less than five minutes after being torpedoed. The ARMENIAN steamer sunk 28 June 1915 by U 24 travelling from Newport News, Virginia, to Avonmouth carrying mules. Five boats full of men were picked up and brought to Milford Haven (128 in total).
