Perambulation of the Boundaries, Welshpool, 1906

Description

One of a series of photographs recording the curious 'Perambulation of the Boundaries of the Borough of Welshpool', which took place over four days in September, 1906. The only known document relating to it set out very detailed instructions for the route, mentioning particular hedges and trees, based on a boundary defined in 1818. Though seemingly similar to the tradition of beating the bounds of a parish, it was a civic rather than a church occasion, and was clearly well supported.
