Abbot's Mill, Trelydan, c. 1905

Description

The Abbot's Mill at Trelydan near Guilsfield is believed to have been built by the Cistercian monks of Strata Marcella Abbey. It was mentioned in the Welshpool borough charter of 1406 and was in use until 1816. It was deliberately destroyed by explosives in 1914 supposedly to make way for a road, though this photograph seems to show lots of space all around the structure.
