Cholera warning notice, c. 1840

Description

A precautionary vestry notice from a Montgomeryshire parish warning of the dangers of 'cholera morbus', undated but probably c. 1840. The recommendations for avoiding cholera include 'extreme cleanliness in the person', fresh air, whitewashed rooms, and clean drains. A severe cholera epidemic in Welshpool in 1848 was caused by the use of a brook running through the town as little more than an open sewer.
