Newspaper clipping about the Holocaust Memorial Day, 27 January 2006
Description
This newspaper clipping from The Jewish Chronicle contains a column by Geoffrey Alderman, a renown historian of the Jewish community in England. Alderman writes about the Holocaust Memorial Day and is amused that in 2006 it was hosted by Wales, the history of which he considers to be marked by anti-Jewish and antisemitic sentiment. Alderman mentions the 1911 Valleys riots that started in Tredegar as the only example of racial or ethic violence in the UK in modern times that warranted military intervention. He also notes the antisemitism of John Saunders Lewis, the founder of Plaid Cymru, and Gwynfor Evans, its first MP.
