Letter from Corporal John Griffith Jones, Cincinnati, to his family in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, 24 October 1862 [page 1 of 4]
Description
John thanks the Lord for keeping him in such good health. He hopes that everone is well in the Salem area. He has heard a rumour that Jane Evans has got married. He wants to know if this is true but sends his regards to her anyway.
He writes that he does not miss anything except for the Chapel at Salem and says that they try and present themselves before the Lord at every opportunity. He has enjoyed reading the Testament, which he was given by Ann Jones, and says that he and some other soldiers meet almost every evening to say prayers.
He passes on a message from another Welsh soldier, who has not heard from his family.
At the top of the letter there is a printed red illustration and caption
'The Captured Battery'.
