Description

When Jim Alford won the 880 yards event in Sydney in 1938, he became the first Welsh athlete to win a gold medal in the Empire Games. He was a talented runner, winning titles in a range of distances, from 440 yards to cross country.

He became the first National Coach for Athletics in Wales in 1948.
