Pontypridd Rugby Football Club badge, 20th century
Description
Formed in 1876, Pontypridd Rugby Football Club played its matches at the Ynysangharad and Trallwn fields before moving to Taff Vale Park in 1890-1. In 1901 it moved again, this time to People's Park in Mill Street, before returning to Ynysangharad in 1904. Finally, Pontypridd moved to Sardis Road in 1971 to make way for a dual carriageway development.
Since the appearance of Edward Llewellyn Treharne in Wales's first international rugby match against England on 19 February 1881, Pontypridd has produced international players of a fine calibre. They include Russell Robins, who moved to rugby league in 1958, Tom David and Bob Penberthy.
The most famous of all Pontypridd players is Neil Jenkins, who scored a record-breaking 1,049 points in 87 tests for Wales and 41 points in 4 tests for the British and Irish Lions.
