Julia Gunn's mother Moira was very ill in the 1980s, so Ray and Julia bought a house at Ceinws Esgairgeiliog. Ray was commuting from Ceinws to RAF Valley and only came home at weekends. One day Ray surprised Julia with a flying visit to Ceinws by a detachment from STCAAME RAF Valley on their way home from a day trip to RAE (Royal Aircraft Establishment) Aberporth. They had a quick cup of tea and cake, then went back to RAF Valley.
