Letter from Mihangel ap Iwan to his parents, the Rev. and Mrs Michael D. Jones, 9 July 1898 [page 1, image 1 of 2]
Description
In this letter to his parents, Mihangel ap Iwan notes that his brother, Llwyd ap Iwan, has been staying with him for a few days and that he intends to stay until there is a ship to take him to the Welsh Settlement. Llwyd visited Rio Negro recently. Mihangel says that it is cold in Junin, but he prefers winter to summer. The winter weather in Junin is similar to Wales, but not as wet. He received a good letter from his mother and Myfanwy, though he fears that some of his letters may have been lost in the post. He hopes that they are enjoying the summer weather. He begs his mother to take a vacation and not worry about life and death. Mihangel claims that his sister, Mair erch Iwan, 'never saw or was ever convinced that there is joy in this life. We must search for a little sunshine rather than live in the shadows of death' (heb erioed gael gweled na'i hargyhoeddi fod yna fwyniant yn y bywyd hwn. Rhaid chwilio am rhywfaint o heulwen ac nid bodoli yn nghysgodion angau o hyd).
