The poet Pedrog (John Owen Williams) (1853-1932), was a native of Llanbedrog, Caernarfonshire. He worked as a gardener and then as a salesman in Liverpool before becoming a Congregational preacher in Liverpool in 1884 where he remained until 1930. He was the Archdruid of the National Eisteddfod of Wales between 1928 and 1932 and Chairman of the Welsh Congregational Union in 1927. He was a frequent contributor to the Welsh press and won numerous prizes for his poetry at eisteddfodau. He was editor of the journal 'Y Dysgedydd' between 1922 and 1928.
