Chartist's helmet
Description
This helmet was abandoned outside of the Westgate Hotel following the Newport Uprising. It is covered in canvas with a leather peak but is reinforced with a riveted iron dome hidden inside. The hat was given to W. Watkins, Hatter of Commercial Street before being donated to Newport Museum and Art Gallery.
