Salter (1994) states that most of the features of the church are 16th century although the walls of the nave and chancel are 13th century. Evidence of a major fire was found during the restoration of 1861.

To provide a photographic record, I had to rescue this rather dilapidated noticeboard, which indicates that Llanfynydd parish church is 800 years old and is dedicated to St Egwad. The board was lying on the floor, its supporting timbers probably a victim of winter storms.

Winter sunshine passing through the ornate ironwork in the lychgate (Image 4) casts stark shadows on the floor, while there is evidence in the stonework of the west tower (Image 5) that the present door has replaced what may once have been a taller entrance.
