Allt-yr-Esgair — Paragon Tower

Description

After absorbing the views from the summit of Allt-yr-Esgair we followed a steep narrow path down through the woodland on its western slopes and soon came upon the building identified on our map as "Paragon Tower". I had been told that this might bear some resemblance to the roundhouse near Abercraf, which I featured on Images of Wales in October 2002. We later discovered that Paragon Tower is an early 19th century hunting lodge.

The exterior of Paragon Tower

Our first view of Paragon Tower as Siân approaches the building from the south. "Tower" seems a rather misleading description!

The outer walls encircle a central chimney stack.

This general view from the south-west shows a curved wall projecting to the south.
