Much of the centre of the city of Swansea was destroyed by German bombing raids during the Second World War. The shopping mall known as the Quadrant Centre is part of the post-war reconstruction.

The Quadrant Centre is a favourite venue for lunchtime shoppers - especially on a rainy day like today! The store on the far left is one of the many branches of H. Samuel, selling jewellery and watches.

The Works is a bargain bookstore, today advertising "Titanic Savings"!

The Quadrant Centre has recently been improved by the addition of a glass roof. On the left is Boots, a department store with branches all over Britain.

The stairway leads to a first-floor café called The Gallery.

The Gallery overlooks the central piazza of the Quadrant Centre. Oasis (top left) sells young fashion clothes, while Clark's (top right) is a shoe-shop.

Many of the shoppers (above Image 7) seem in a hurry to get somewhere.... .... while others (Image 8) eat their lunch and read the newspaper.

W H Smith sells books, magazines, stationery, music CDs, DVDs, and videos. River Island is a fashion clothing store. The yellow cones warn shoppers to keep clear of the wet and slippery floor. The new glass roof is already leaking!
