Apart from its associations with the poet Dylan Thomas, Laugharne (pronounced "Larn") is known for the huge keep of its castle, built by the Welsh prince Rhys ap Gruffydd.

Laugharne Castle overlooks the mudflats and estuary of Afon Taf.

Most of the ruined castle dates from Tudor times, when the stronghold was converted to a mansion by Sir John Perrott, said to be an illegitimate son of King Henry VIII.

One of the castle's imposing towers (Image 5), at the south corner of the keep. St Martin's parish church (Image 6) is situated on a wooded slope on the outskirts of Laugharne.
