County Borough of Newport provided a combined private metered water supply for the first four houses up Bowden’s lane being The Grove, Castle View, The Bungalow, and Highfield. It was laid on from A48 (east of Smithy) via CroesWen field and Broad Oaks field at a cost of (pipe and fittings only) approx. £800 to Highfield.
