John Byron Howells Interview with Tom Jones [Welsh]

Description

Mr Howells worked in his early life draining and planting Tywi forest. In 1955, he became a wildlife ranger (pest control officer). He talks of his work, the ways of animals and the security of working for the forestry. During the interview, the following topics are discussed: starting with the Forestry Commission (FC) in 1937 – draining and planting; no piece work until age 21; 1955 started as a pest control officer, comments on fox, badger, grey squirrel and rabbit population controlling and methods used; mention of returning sheep to owner if caught on plantation; independant way of working – always accompanied with sheep dog and terrier; walking and cycling to work – never failing to get into work; getting a forestry van in 1962; 40 years' service to FC.
