The first record of them having sketched the same subject – Babbacombe Bay in Torquay – was in
1876. Beatrice was twenty-years old and Annie five years’ younger. This was the first of many
occasions when the sisters would set off together on a sketching trip – sometimes in England and
sometimes in north Wales. The second image shows Oddicome Bay which was painted 20 days earlier.
