'Llaethfaen' - Healing Stone and bag, 19th century

Description

This healing stone and bag come from Gilfach Wen, Llandysul. A small amount of this stone, which is gypsum, was scraped off and mixed with milk as a cure for hydrophobia (fear of water), one of the symptoms of rabies. The fame of this stone was such that people who had been bitten by mad dogs travelled great distances to Gilfach Wen in the hope of a cure.
