Dr. J. Davies Thomas, like his brother, Mr. Jabez Edwin Thomas, left Swansea many years ago and chose South Australia as the scene of his life and work. The high position which he won out there as a medical man, and the estimation in which he was held by his fellow colonists, may best be gauged from the following leading article in the “Register.”

His investigations into the origin and life history of hydatids, while they enabled him to render signal service to many sufferers from a much-dreaded disease, were yet undertaken more in the interests of medical science and with a view to its worldwide application than for the purpose of extending his own private professional practice.
