Picturesque Views of Ystrad (Rhondda) and District. Published by D. Jones, Stationer, Ystrad Rhondda. There is a faint pencil notation inside the front cover with a date of 1902, a name , the first of which is undecipherable along with a Welsh phrase. There is a stamp on page 1 with the name Ben Bowen Thomas This is a collection of 16 views of Ystrad Rhondda at around 1900. Plate 1: Nebo Chapel, Ystrad. One of the few in The Rhondda to have an attached Cemetery. Plate 2: St Stephens Church, Ystrad, before the war memorial was erected. Plate 3: General view with Tyntyla Hospital in the forefront and Gelli Colliery in the distance. Plate 4: Tysha Road, Ystrad/Gelli border. Photograph taken from the brow of the bridge from Carter’s Corner. Plate 5: Bethel Chapel, located at the center of William Street, opposite house number 93. The alley at the side leads up to Bryn Terrace. Plate 6: Bodringallt Colliery, was actually an extension of the Ferndale colliery in the adjacent Rhondda Fach. Plate 7: Ystrad Road Workers Library. Plate 8: Bodringallt Chapel. Now demolished. Located opposite the road leading to Bodringallt Schools. Plate 9: William Street, a business hub. The Publishers business was one of the shops on the left. Plate 10: Bodringallt Schools. Subsequently a further two schools were built higher up the mountain. Plate 11: Jerusalem Chapel, corner of Chapel Street and Tyntyla Terrace. Plate 12: Gelli Colliery, one of the largest in the Valley. Plate 13: Gellygaled (sic) Road looking up from the junction of Penrhys road leading over the mountain to the Rhondda Fach. Plate 14: William Street. The high roof is Bodringallt Chapel. Plate 15: Tyntyla Hospital, with Gelli colliery in the background. Plate 16: General view of Ystrad from Penrhys Mountain.
