Swansea Docks, The Troubadour and the Latter Day Saints
Description
Thousands of converts to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (so-called Mormons or Mormonites) emigrated from Liverpool to America in the 19th century. Those who left from south Wales typically sailed first from Swansea or Milford Haven on the Troubadour or Glendower, around the coast. The first sizeable group left in February 1849, providing quite a spectacle as they rode into the town on waggons and left on the steamboat the following morning.
