A black and white postcard of the construction of No. 1 dock at Barry. Description on the back of the postcard reads: "THE CONSTRUCTION OF DOCKS AT BARRY, GLAMORGAN. The construction of No. 1 dock at Barry began in November 1884. Two dams were made to drain a large area of the sound between Barry Island and the mainland, so that work could go on without hindrance from the tides. Photograph published by Glamorgan Archive Service, Cardiff-no.2."
