Description

Alderman Rose Davies, J.P. (First Labour Candidate), and supporters. Rose Davies was born in Aberdare in 1882. She was a school teacher and Labour activist who became the first woman member, alderman and, in 1949, Chairman of Glamorgan County Council. In 1920 she was one of the first three women magistrates in Wales. In the 1929 General Election she stood as the first Labour candidate for the Honiton division of Devon.
