Born in 1944 in Pentre Broughton, and moved to Minera aged 7. Attended Pentre Broughton Infant School and then Minera School, Penygelli, and finally Denbighshire Junior Technical College.

Started working at the waterworks after finishing school, after 7 years moved to the steelworks. In 1967 LP moved to the limeworks which had just been purchased by Tarmac. After 5 years he was promoted to head office in Shotton and was then made redundant. Then he returned to Wrexham to work for G.R. Davis [unsure of spelling] which produced cattle food. After 7 years again returned to Minera Quarry.
