Programme of the Fifth Annual Semi National Eisteddfod held at Market Hall in Llandilo / Llandeilo, on Saturday, 18 July 1931

Description

By the end of the nineteenth century, Llandeilo had its fair share of performance venues, such as the chapels, the Civic Hall (or Drill Hall / Victoria Hall), Market Hall, and St Teilo's Church. These hosted countless concerts, fundraisers, and eisteddfodau, which drew audiences from far and wide. At one time, several eisteddfodau were held in the town each year, such as the children's eisteddfod, chapel eisteddfodau, and the 'Semi-National Eisteddfod', such as this example. The presidents of the day were Miss Sheila Philipps, Tregeyb (Tregib), Llandeilo and the Honorable Imogen Rhys, Castell Dinefwr (Dynevor).

The Music judges were Dr Caradog Roberts (Mus. Doc Oxon) FRCO LRAM ARCM, Rhos and George Llewellyn Esq. Mus Bac, LRAM, ARCM, Port Talbot.

There were some interesting competitions among the list set, such as an Octette by a local composer, Cllr. B. Hughes; Action Song for children under 18; and writing an imaginary letter from Lord Rhys to Lord Dinefwr (which was limited to members of Urdd Gobaith Cymru).
