Cwmparc Tales: Interview with Meurig Hughes
Description
Meurig Hughes was born in 1937 in Treorchy. The Parc colliery, Cwmparc, was a family affair for him; his grandfather walked from Ystrad Meurig near Tregaron to the Rhondda to find work as he knew David Davies of Llandinam. His father Evan David Hughes worked as a foreman in Parc colliery as did his brother John, and his mother, Leah Jane (nee Lewis) was a telephonist for the Ocean Coal Company, as was his eldest sister Mair, before she moved in London. Meurig taught in the Rhondda for most of his life, notably Treorchy Comprehensive School, at the bottom of Cwmparc. He has many vivid and warm memories of the Cwmparc community.
