Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, Amlwch, Anglesey

Description

This Catholic church is dedicated to Our Lady St Mary, as well as the 7th century Welsh saint St Winefride. It is a 20th century creation, begun in 1932 and consecrated in 1937. The architect was Giuseppe Rinvolucri, an Italian from Piedmont who came to Wales after World War I, settled in Conwy and designed several Catholic churches in Wales and England. It was built in reinforced concrete and was designed to look like the upturned hull of a ship, in tribute to Amlwch's maritime heritage.
