Edward VIII (1894–1972), Prince of Wales
Description
'A standing figure wearing the ornate embroidered robes of University Chancellor, with arms folded loosely across chest and right hand holding tassled mortar board. The robe flows down the rear of the statue and covers the upper half of pedestal.
It is the only known full-length statue of Edward Albert, Prince of Wales, future Edward VIII, later Duke of Windsor. The statue has had a chequered history as it has been whitewashed, painted green and in 1976 the head was sawn off and later found in the nearby castle grounds. The head was soldered back in time for Prince Charles to be installed as the seventh Chancellor of the University of Wales in July 1977.' --Aberystwyth University
