Description

Constance Hill was the daughter of Colonel Sir Edward Hill KCB VD MP JP (1834-1902) who established the Hills Dry Docks and Engineering Co in 1857 for the building and repairing of iron or wood vessels. He was a Conservative Party politician who served as MP for Bristol South from 1886 to 1900.
Constance Hill was an accomplished cricketer with both the bat and ball, captaining the Glamorganshire Ladies XI. She was also active in politics, serving as President of one of the Cardiff Branches of the Primrose League. In 1897 she married Walter Robertson Hoare at Llandaff Cathedral, with 250 guests attending the ceremony.
The family resided at Rookwood until 1913, but retained ownership of the house until 1917
