Eight display boards form the ‘Sport and Leisure in Newtown 1850-1914’ exhibition held at the Newtown Textile Museum in 2024. This exhibition explored the relationship between Newtown's flannel industry and the rise of popular culture in the town during the time of industrialisation 1850-1914.

Board 1 - ‘Sport and Leisure in Newtown 1850-1914’Introduction and impact of industrialisation and the 1850 Factory Act. Rise of Saturday half-holidays and working-class sport.

Board 2 - ‘Sport as Social Glue’Role of elites, religion, and employers in promoting sport; Key figures in Newtown’s sporting leadership.

Board 3 - ‘Newtown, an early centre of Welsh football’Formation of Newtown FC and other local teams; early football achievements and notable players.

Board 4 - ‘Sports Day Development of the annual Sports Day’Pryce Jones’ influence and mass public participation.

Board 5 - ‘Royal Welsh Warehouse Sport & Recreation Society’Formation of multiple clubs and cultural activities: excursions, concerts, and community engagement.

Page 6- ‘But where are the women?’ Gender and Exclusion: Lack of female participation in sport; societal attitudes and limited evidence of women’s involvement.

Page 7- ‘Carnival'Origins and evolution of the Newtown Carnival; social commentary through costumes and parades.

Page 8- ‘The End of an Era’WWI and Decline; Farewell to ‘B’ Company in 1914; post-war decline of industry and transformation of leisure.
