Interview with Andrea Rowe part 2, 2024
Description
Interview with Andrea Rowe, ecologist and project officer at High Brown Fritillary project, has a deep family connection with St Brides Major and surrounding area. She speaks about the loss of habitat and biodiversity she has witnessed locally, and how the HBF project aims to respond. Interview held on 10 September 2024 by Bettina Furnée, as part of her artist residency for Natur Am Byth with the High Brown Fritillary project, Vale of Glamorgan. Bettina interviewed volunteers, ecologists and commoners who maintain Old Castle Down as the last habitat of the High Brown Fritillary in Wales. These conversations are the artist’s source for the lyrics of Britheg Brown, a clarion call for the butterfly, set to music by Welsh composer Emma Daman Thomas. Local singers will perform the song for film on Old Castle Down in collaboration with St Brides Major Primary school choir, speakers and harpist.
