Description
A National memorial to the memory of Professor Alfred Hughes from Fronwen, Aberllefenni, who was a Professor of Anatomy at Cardiff and at King's College, London. When the war broke out in South Africa in the late 1890's, he organised to have a Welsh hospital built there, staffed by Welsh doctors and nurses. While he was in South Africa, he developed a fever and died on the 3rd of November 1900 after returning home to Wales, only 39years old.
