Roman Tragic Mask
Description
Made from ivory, this mask probably once decorated a box or piece of furniture which was placed in a Roman grave near Caerleon. The figure is a representation of tragedy and wears the pilleus - the freedman's cap; a symbol of freedom in the Roman world.
