Griffith Jones was a member at Ebenezer Chapel, Four Crosses, near Pwllheli; he enlisted in the army in the chapel following a sermon by the Rev.. John Williams, Brynsiencyn. He joined the 13th Battalion, Royal Welch Fusiliers (Royal Welch Fusiliers), and went to France in December 1915. Some of the letters he wrote home survived. He died in the battle for Mametz Wood on July 10, 1916.
