Visit of Queen Elizabeth II to Caernarfon Castle, 1953

Description

During Queen Elizabeth's visit to Wales in 1953, the last of the Coronation State visits, the first stop was at Caernarfon Castle, a 700 year old bastion built by King Edward I.

On her arrival at the castle, Sir Harold Campbell (her Equerry), demanded entrance on her behalf. Later, in the enclosure, the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh, received representatives of many walks of life in north Wales. This picture shows Her Majesty on the dais receiving the Mayors.
