Hotpoint End Clocking On 1977

Description

This is an article about the end of the traditional practice of making factory workers clock on and off, feeding time cards into the factory clocking machine at the beginning and end of shifts.
1300 workers at the Hotpoint Factory, Llandudno Junction will now arrive "on trust" for their shifts. The Chairman argued that the more trust and respect management gives to workers, the more efficient they become. This gives the workers a sense of responsibility rather than treating them like children.
The workers at the factory are very positive about the changes and also about the Chairman's approach. Sick pay schemes, ending piecework for profit-sharing and extra benefits are part of the new company deal for workers.
