Small Tortoiseshell butterfly
Description
The small Tortoiseshell butterfly, Aglais urticae can be seen throughout Britain and Ireland. The eggs are laid in a heap towards the top of the nettle plant and on the underside of the leaves in April throughout May. The second brood between July and August. They hatch in one to three weeks.
