Large White butterfly
Description
The large White butterfly, Pieris brassicae can be found anywhere in Britain and Ireland and can be a garden pest as the caterpillars feed on brassicas. They have two broods, one in May-July and the other in August - September. The eggs are yellow and laid in clusters of 20-100 on the leaves of brassica plants and hatch in one to two weeks. I have never seen so many large White and small White butterflies as I have this hot summer of 2025.
