Small White butterfly
Description
The small White butterfly, Pieris rapae can be found throughout Britain and Ireland and for many a gardener, it can be a pest because they lay their eggs on brassicas. Eggs are laid singly on the underside of cabbages and nasturtium leaves and they hatch in 4 - 14 days. They have three broods, April - May, July - August and September - October. I've never seen so many small and large White butterflies as I have this hot summer of 2025. They were every where !
