Swallowtail butterfly
Description
A water colour painting of the Swallowtail butterfly, Papilio machaon britannicus by Julia Gunn in 1981. It shows a chrysalis and caterpillar on a Dill ( Anethum graveolens )plant which the caterpillar feeds on. The swallowtail is rare and has full protection in the UK. It can only be seen in the Norfolk broads of East Anglia.
